Functional and fun, but too many extras - I don't need ratings, points, and in game rewards - I just want to play shogi. I can't open the app without being bombarded by multiple pop ups. These are not external ads, they are part of the app. I would also prefer if I could play the computer opponent without an Internet connection, but I can't. It makes me wonder how much mobile data the app is using.

I love this game. Anyone who likes board game like chess or checkers etc will enjoy this game. It's not a time killer. However, it will be better if the 'practice' games have a 'save' option, so that when a player leave the game in the middle for some work and return to the game can continue from where they left it instead of lossing the game for leaving in the middle. :)

I love Shogi. My only problems with the game is that the CPU takes way too long to play a move. Its almost as if its an actual person that thinks a lot. I was waiting around 1 or 2 minutes each time it had to make a move. Also the CPU is programmed too hard. I just played against a level 1 for about half an hour and it kept countering all of my plays. This might be because Im new at the game but I think level 1 should be a lot easier to beat. Overall a great game, besides the 2 flaws I found.

Good for if you already know how to play Shogi, and the ads aren't particularly intrusive. Only problem is I can't find any sort of tutorial that explains more than how the pieces are moved, it'd be nice if there were move guides for captured pieces so you'd have a better idea of what to place where. This is all from the perspective of someone relatively new to Shogi, and inexperienced in kanji. It's not lost on me that the pieces literally say what they are.

Love the strategic approach in Shogi, along with the movements of the pieces. AI offers a good challenge based on the level desired, making it accessible for both new & seasoned players. While it can get pretty wild placing captured pieces at almost any spot around the board, I'm fine with it because it keeps you on your toes, and allows for some creative setups to force your opponent's hand. Prefer Shogi over Chess, although both have their respectable layers of strategy.

Positives: -The app is smooth. -Quick to find matches in my experience. -Has multiple levels of AI with handicaps if you want them. Cons: -The English is not perfect, however its perfectly understandable. Only a con if youre a stickler. - You can only play 3 free matches before you have to wait or spend money. This is the only thing bringing it down to 3 stars for me. A few more free games would help a ton. I understand you gotta make money somewhere. Maybe cosmetics?
